Maker
How to Be an Ordinary Hero is a fairy tale with a purpose. Through ten chapters the reader is taken through the ten stage Hero’s Map of Achievement to learn how to make positive change happen in their lives. It was written to accompany the personal growth and business training programme Dwight Longenecker developed while living in England. Using the content of the book as a starting point the brief was to create a brand that communicated this personal development programme to young adults. It was re-imagined under the name ‘Maker’, where the reader becomes the maker of their own future. It was allied closely to the narrative of popular film in order to help connect it to its target audience. Keeping the same ten stages of character development but referencing and explaining them through modern film helped keep the communication fresh and relevant. It was also the motivation for the film reel photography by Giles Revell. Each stage of the process is illustrated through use of clean photography and strong graphic ideas. This visual approach is carried through on the poster that accompanied the book.
