Nike
Art direction, typography and design for Nike’s campaign celebrating the 93 black players that have changed the face of English football. The campaign was revealed at the Uefa Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro on November 14, 2019, which also marked the English men’s national team’s 1,000th match. During this time, only 93 of the 1,244 footballers who’ve played for England have been black, with the first being Viv Anderson in 1978 and the most recent, Tyrone Mings. To mark the contribution of black players including Ian Wright, Raheem Sterling, John Barnes and Ashley Cole, Nike’s “And all who follow” campaign honours the 93 men with portraits and numbers for each player.
Shirt number typography and graphic material patterns were replicated for each player corresponding to the kit they wore on their England debuts, lending the campaign an accurate and authentic visual styling.
The work picked up two Campaign Big awards in November 2020.
